Abstract

This article addresses and develops the theme of the election of traditional authorities in the Ngäbe Buglé Region, political participation as a human right and the representation of women in the election of traditional authorities. The political participation of Indigenous peoples has a national and international regulatory framework that recognizes their rights as native peoples, their forms of organization, uses, customs and traditions. In this sense, the political participation of Indigenous women, specifically from the Ngäbe Buglé Region, has become relevant in recent years, with the application of the principle of parity in nominations in the election of their traditional authorities.

It is important to highlight the role of the Electoral Tribunal in the organization, supervision and accompaniment of these electoral processes in collaboration with the people of the Region, their elected authorities and institutions, constituting a typical case of electoral political participation that combines traditional laws, national laws and in adherence to human rights standards.
