Abstract

Much is said about the social framework and it’s importance in laying the foundations of the State, but little is examined regarding which variables influence collective action aimed at achieving outcomes that benefit the common good, guided by civic valued and elements internalized in human nature such as trust, reciprocity, and commitment. This paper seeks to address how spaces for collective participation are constructed within society and to what extent these are beneficial -or not- for the public management of a State. It explores the concept of social capital and analyzes how individuals move within their networks of contacts, how they build these relationships, and for what purposes diverse interactions are stablished, whether or not they generate civic-mindedness and interest in public affairs in Panama.
