Abstract

This article makes a comprehensive review of electoral crimes at the dawn of our Republican life until the creation of the first Electoral Code and thus, it guides to know the historical, political and social context in which the legislator with the mission of perfecting the legislation and shielding the electoral system, was incorporating new criminal figures, main and accessory penalties, and even, establishing at the constitutional level, prohibitions to public authorities with command and jurisdiction, to guarantee from the Constitution, the freedom, purity and honesty of suffrage in Panama.

Author Biography / See

Maruja Galvis

Graduate in Law from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of the University of Panama. She has been an advisor to the presiding magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice and the presiding magistrate of the Electoral Tribunal. Author of works such as Formal requirements of the contentious-administrative claim of full jurisdiction (Legal, doctrinal and jurisprudential analysis). He is currently a Compliance Judge at the Electoral Tribunal.
